BEING AT HOME
IN CITY HEIGHTS
Being At Home in City Heights aims to create community dialogue
and a participatory, visual storytelling project around the topic of home through:
1. Community Workshops + Dialogue
2. Youth Photo Ambassador Program + Access to Cameras
3. Paid Photography Opportunities for Community Members
4. Free Community Exhibition + Cultural Event
Why City Heights?
City Heights is San Diego´s most culturally and linguistically diverse neighboorhood. With 40% of the population being foreign born, this participatory photography project invites these individuals into an important conversation to map the context, definition, and feeling of home through dialogue and visual storytelling.
For a community currently being impacted by the politics of home, the following inquiries are directly linked to the daily experience of the residents of this community. Where are you a local in City Heights? What creates and cultivates your feeling of home? Who do you spend your daily life with? Where do you spend your time? What factors can threaten or hinder your feeling of home? What are your restrictions?
Funded in 2018 by the California Arts Council, this project will culminate into a photo book and installation in April 2019.
